Family Assembly Committees

Would you like to become more involved? Join us! There is a little something for everyone. The Family Assembly currently has four committees of family volunteers.

Education and Family History Committee

To safely and accurately preserve our family and company history by developing educational programs for all generations, managing the family genealogy, and documenting our evolving history.

Committee activities include:
  • Planning and delivering educational materials and activities for the family.
  • Conducting interviews with members of our older generations.
  • Compiling biographies on various family members. Many of these biographies have become part of a booklet documenting our veterans and family memories during war times.
  • Researching our Burguières ancestors and allied families.
  • Developing and updating the family tree.
  • Exploring our genetic genealogy through the following DNA projects.
    • The Burguières DNA Project
    • The Mirant Project
    • The Patout Project

The Heritage Education Program (HEP)

Founded in 2010, the mission of the HEP is to provide an educational experience relative to JMB family history and business through activities and workshops during the annual shareholders meeting for family members ages six to twenty. The goal of the program is to raise awareness of family history and knowledge of family business that will inspire generations of family members.

Guest Houses and Cemetery Committee

To ensure the family guest homes and family cemeteries are maintained to preserve our heritage, provide a safe and inviting gathering place for family members to reunite, and connect the past with the future generations.

The Guest Houses and Cemeteries Committee is responsible for the promotion and maintenance of the guest houses owned by The J. M. Burguières Co., Limited. The guest houses include the Cypremort House in Franklin, Louisiana and the McGill House in Alpine, Texas. The committee is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of family cemeteries and gravesites.

Committee activities include:
  • Marketing the usage of the guest houses and maintaining the budget of any house repairs and renovations.
  • Conducting surveys about the properties.
The Cypremort House Survey has been completed and sent to the Family Assembly.
  • Forming a non-profit (501C3) status for the landscaping of the Cypremort House. All contributions would be tax-deductible.
  • Creating a Cypremort House Guest House Book (a how-to guide for the house).
  • Working on a highway marker to honor St. Helen's Cemetery.
  • Repairing and maintaining gravestones.
Philippe Julian Burguières' gravestone, located in England, has been repaired.
