LOUISIANA - The above photos were taken in the Dutchtown and Geismar, LA areas which are located about 45 miles north of New Orleans. Snow fall was between 9 - 10 inches deep making for a noted record since the 1800s. Never before has Louisiana been told to prepare for blizzard conditions with wind gusts over 35 mph! This required schools and all roadways to close due to the icy road conditions, poor visibility as well as many substandard roads.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation did not have the equipment, or salt to clear the interstates. However, many neighboring states did volunteer to assist the State to re-open all major highways and interstates within a couple of days.
